Hackers targeting official Twitter accounts of cryptocurrency exchanges have targeted the official Kucoin account

On Monday 24 April KuCoin’s Twitter account was compromised, and fake giveaway promotions were posted, resulting in users losing their funds. KuCoin has promised to fully reimburse all verified asset losses from the scam, with one user alone losing $22,000

The attack lasted for almost an hour, and 22 transactions were identified as being involved in the incident. KuCoin pledged to implement better security measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. They are also collaborating with Twitter to investigate the incident further.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident, and other exchanges and NFT projects have fallen victim to similar attacks. In September 2022, CoinDCX’s Twitter account was compromised, and fake XRP advertisements were promoted. In January 2023, Robinhood’s Twitter account was taken over, and a crypto token was promoted.

The Azuki NFT project’s Twitter account was also compromised, resulting in a loss of $758,000 in just 30 minutes. These incidents highlight the need for heightened security measures in the cryptocurrency space to protect users from scams and hacks.

In response to the KuCoin incident, the company urged victims to contact them for assistance. It’s important for users to remain vigilant and take steps to protect their assets, such as enabling two-factor authentication and keeping their passwords secure.

While cryptocurrency exchanges and NFT projects must continue to improve their security measures, users must also play their part in safeguarding their funds. The industry must work together to ensure that the cryptocurrency space is safe and secure for all users.
