The Shapella hard fork has been successfully implemented on the Goerli testnet as a part of the preparations for its upcoming deployment on the Ethereum mainnet in the first week of April.
The fork includes five Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), with the most anticipated one being EIP-4895, which is a significant step towards a fully functional proof-of-stake system for Ethereum. This upgrade is expected to bring several improvements to the network, including increased scalability, efficiency, and security.
During the Goerli testnet execution, there were problems with the hard fork. Tim Beiko, an Ethereum core developer, stated that the deposit process was not smooth because some testnet validators did not upgrade their client software before the Goerli fork. Beiko explained that testnet validators have less incentive to upgrade because Goerli ETH has no value. He expects validators to make the necessary adjustments before the Ethereum mainnet fork.
